【Fashionista: My Favourite Magazine Covers In 2017】

Fashion magazine cover is a sacred place. It’s an indicator of the most celebrated faces or issues in the fashion industry at a particular moment of time. It’s also the holy grail all photographers are after. Let’s take a look at my favourite covers in 2017 so far.

Vogue Italia July 2017

The ‘Shades of Time’ cover shoot by legendary fashion photographer Steven Miesel was featured in Vogue Italia July 2017 in celebrations of the magazine’s new chapter. While social media influence in the fashion industry remains strong, the photographer and the magazine decide to revisit the golden times before Photoshop was invented. You may also recognise the model-photographer combo in the latest Zara campaign.

Vanity Fair Hollywood issue

Need no explanation here really. It’s another year of Vanity Fair to celebrate talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood on the magazine cover. Photographed by the famous portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz, the featured women are Natalie Portman, Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Ruth Negga, Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, Dakota Johnson, Greta Gerwig, Aja Naomi King, and Janelle Monáe.

i-D summer 2017

By now, you should know their names: Adwoa Aboah, Slick Woods, Elliott Jay Brown and many more. In the current political and social media climate, activist is no longer the title for extreme thinkers. Instead, it lands you with opportunities which those with the same titles a decade ago would not have imagined having. The three names mentioned are featured on the magazine cover of i-D summer issue, which, along with the images inside, photographer Tim Walker spent 6 months shooting.

Vogue Korea July 2017

It’s Tilder Swinton. It’s Chanel Fall 2017 inspired by the space. It’s Sølve Sundsbø. When the three elements come together on a magazine cover, one can only imagine an otherworldly and captivating image. There’s nothing like Tilder’s way of portraying emotion in still images. That’s what makes this magazine cover one of my favourites.
